Blue Mountains Gazette – Linden Observatory lights up for art

The first contemporary art exhibition held at the heritage-listed Linden Observatory will take place on Saturday, November 4.

The exhibition will launch The Altitude Project, a series of contemporary art events taking place on heritage sites across the Blue Mountains that share a history of astronomy and aviation.

As well as the Linden Observatory exhibition there will be performances and installations in the public parks named in honour of the celebrity aviators of the early 20th century, Kingsford Smith and Melrose, in February 2018.

Observatory cultural officer and exhibition curator Miriam Williamson, and co-curator Mahalya Middlemist have received funding from Create NSW and the Blue Mountains City of Arts Trust for the project.

Create NSW Grant

We are excited to announce that The Altitude Project has received a project grant from Create NSW for $23,000.  A big thank you to all who contributed with partnerships and letters of support including the Linden Observatory Trust, Katoomba Neighbourhood Centre, Cementa, Blue Mountains City Council, David Haines, Trish Doyle MP, and most of all the artists and our very small team.  Particular thanks to Caroline Wilde and David Brazil. Grant submissions are just the tip of an iceberg of collaborative work beneath the surface. Here's a pic of curators Miriam Williamson and Mahalya Middlemist looking suitably exhausted and relieved.  We launch off at the Linden Observatory on the 4th of November. Stay tuned for more details soon.
