Altitude - Aviators
A contemporary art event held in Kingsford Smith Pak, Katoomba on Saturday 17th February 2018.

As the community divides over the proposed 2nd Sydney airport and the impact of aircraft noise on this World Heritage Area, The Altitude Project looked to the skies and drew on the communities past relationship with the celebrity aviators of the early 20th Century and the public parks dedicated them to hold multi-artform events in Kingsford Smith & Melrose Parks in February 2018.

Altitude -The Aviators took off with internationally acclaimed contemporary artists presenting sound and interactive installation art in Kingsford Smith Memorial Park. Audience members joined a séance performance calling on the spirit of celebrity aviator Amy Johnson with artist Jacquelene Drinkall, became students at “Amy Johnsons Flight School” in a work by Rachel Peachey and Paul Mosig using sensors and real-time processing to explore Kingsford Smith Park through manipulated reality. An interactive 4 channel sound installation celebrating Johnson’s life, by artists Solange Kershaw and Damian Castaldi, was installed on the path leading down to the park. After dark there was a laser work by Brad Allen-Waters, a networked LED light installation by Michael Petchkovsky and Sound Artists Gail Priest and Chris Caines performed new works live in the historic sound shell. In addition there was a sound performance by Broken Chip.
